OTF Holding Annual Bandon Dunes Raffle

The Oregon Turfgrass Foundation is holding its 2017 Bandon Dunes Raffle. The winner receives two nights stay at Lily Pond Lodging (for four people) AND eight rounds of golf at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. The total rewards package is valued at $3,800

Prices are $25 for an individual ticket or buy five tickets for $100. No more than 499 tickets will be sold.

The drawing is slated for Dec. 6 at the Oregon Convention Center OGCSA Pest Management Seminar. Need not be present to win.

Volunteers Needed for PGA Professional Championship & WinCo Foods Portland Open

Volunteers are still needed for a pair of big-time tournaments occurring this summer in Oregon, the 50th PGA Professional Championship held at Sunriver and the WinCo Foods Portland Open in the Portland metro area.

Sunriver Resort’s Crosswater and Meadows courses have been selected to host the 50th PGA Professional Championship, June 15 – 21, 2017. This will mark the fourth time that the PGA of America’s showcase event for PGA Professionals will be contested at the Sunriver Resort. All volunteers will receive a uniform and access to the championship grounds all week. Committee preferences are entered on a first come, first serve basis and are at no time guaranteed. The 2017 WinCo Foods Portland Open is also accepting volunteer applications. Walk inside the ropes as a Standard Bearer as players battle it out for their PGA TOUR card or volunteer in the Hospitality Suites and spend your day on Witch Hollow’s famed Par-5 18th hole. For another way to get up close and personal, volunteer at the Witch Hollow practice area as 156 elite golfers prepare for the most important rounds of their careers. Caddies Needed for 50th PGA Professional Championship

Sunriver Resort’s Crosswater and Meadows courses will host the 50th PGA Professional Championship June 15 – 21, 2017. Sunriver is beginning the process of signing up over 700 volunteers needed to work this year’s championship event.

The field consists of 312 players from all over the nation and there are many caddie positions that need to be filled. The caddie is the only paid position of the tournament and there are additional gratuities paid from the players as well.

Pacific Northwest PGA Section Honors Two OPGA Professionals

The Pacific Northwest Section honored 14 PGA Golf Professionals with their 2016 Special Awards last night at Glendale CC, and two of them were from the Oregon Chapter.  The PGA of America President, Paul Levy, was on hand to congratulate all of the winners.  Congratulations to Chris Gonzales, Assistant Golf Professional of the Year & Harold Bluestein, Horton Smith Award winner.

OGCOA Spring Conference and Member Meeting Set for March 8

Registration is now open for the OGCOA Spring 2017 Conference. The conference is slated for Wednesday, March 8 at Sah-Hah-Lee Golf Course in Clackamas.

There are two methods for registration: 

A robust agenda will be addressing numerous relevant industry topics. Topics/Speakers include: Customer Service Mentality with Tom Champoux, Oregon Employment Laws with Jenna Reed, Five Ways to Tackle Your Neglected Project with Brittany Smith, Legislative Updates with Bill Perry, and updates from the NGCOA and GCSAA national conferences with Sally Cheyne and David Phipps.

The Children’s Course and The First Tee of Greater Portland Holding Raffle

The Children’s Course and The First Tee of Greater Portland recently launched the First Annual Stock Your Cellar Wine Raffle. The winner will take home 90 of some of the best wine in the area.

Featured wineries include: Alexana, Eola Hills, Hyland Estates, Lemelson Vineyards, North Valley Vineyards, Owen Roe, Solena and Torii Mor, Westmount.

Tickets are $50 and only 1,000 will be sold. Tickets also enter you into additional giveaways leading up to the Grand Prize; which will be announced at the annual Wine and Golf Ball—The premiere event and fundraiser for The Children’s Course and The First Tee of Greater Portland which will be held April 21, 2017 at the Oregon Golf Club.

Junior Golf Club Swap Meet Set for March 4

The Oregon Golf Association, in partnership with the Oregon PGA, will host its second annual Junior Golf Club Swap Meet on Saturday, March 4 from 10am-3pm at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn.

The event, which allows youth golfers to swap old clubs for new ones at little or no cost, is open to players of all skill levels ages 18 and under. Youth in attendance will have access to free range balls, putting green games, inflatable targets, individual tips from PGA pros and much more. The giant, inflatable Golfzilla will be making a special appearance as well.

“We are excited to host the Junior Golf Club Swap Meet once again,” Oregon Golf Association CEO Barb Trammell said. “Last year we outfitted over 125 kids with equipment and bags and this year we hope to increase those numbers to reach even more children, providing them with the gift of golf.”

The purpose for the Junior Golf Club Swap Meet is to match youth golfers with age-appropriate equipment to help make the game more enjoyable.

The event is in need of donations and will be accepting new and used club contributions from the general public through the end of February. Please only donate equipment (wedges, irons, woods, bags, etc.) in ready-to-use condition for youth golfers.
